Skater
Acrylic on canvas
40cm x 40cm x 1.5cm
2009
I was with my daughter, rushing to catch a train, when I spotted the empty skate park — the ramps, the graffiti, the stillness — and knew I wanted to paint it.
As I framed the shot, a young man
wandered into view, set down his skateboard, and bent to tie his shoelace. With no time left to wait for a clear frame, I took the picture anyway.
Later, I realised the interruption belonged in the painting — a small, destined moment that turned an empty scene into a story.
